Home Course to host Northwest Open beginning in 2022
The Home Course in DuPont, Wash. will be the home of the Northwest Open Invitational beginning in 2022. The inaugural agreement is for three years with the prospect of an additional two years. The tournament will feature a 168-player field consisting of professional and amateur golfers from the Pacific Northwest.
“The PGA is thrilled to deepen our relationship with the PNGA and WA Golf,” stated Frank Talarico, CEO of the Pacific Northwest PGA. “This is not only selecting a premium venue for our oldest major championship, it’s a partnership with a like-minded association that shares our passion for the game of golf and all who work and play in it.”
The 2022 Northwest Open Invitational will take place on May 16-18. This marks a significant change from the August dates that the event occupied in recent years. In order to accommodate the move from summer to spring, the Muckleshoot Casino Washington Open Invitational will move from May to August, effectively swapping places in the Pacific Northwest PGA tournament schedule.
The Home Course, known as “The Home of Golf in the Northwest,” has previously hosted other Pacific Northwest PGA events. The National Car Rental Pacific Northwest PGA Assistant Championship was held there in in 2018; it was also the site of the Pacific Northwest PGA Senior Championship in 2015.
“The primary mission and long-term vision of The Home Course established by Washington Golf and the PNGA is to support and promote the game of golf,” said Troy Andrew, CEO of the PNGA, WA Golf and The Home Course. “We have stayed true to that mission through supporting our allied golf industry partners, conducting championships of excellence, administering junior golf programs, and other good-for-the-game initiatives.
“Hosting the Northwest Open is an incredible honor and will further enhance our already strong partnership with the Pacific Northwest PGA Section. The history and prestigious nature of this section championship couldn’t make this a better fit.”
Other significant championships held at The Home Course include serving as the companion course to Chambers Bay for the 2010 U.S. Amateur, hosting the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, and the 2009 and 2018 PNGA Men’s Amateur. Later this month, The Home Course will serve as the companion course to Chambers Bay for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball.
The Northwest Open Invitational began in 1901 as the Pacific Coast Championship. From 1901 to 1904 the championship was held at Pebble Beach – Del Monte Golf Course. In 1905, the event moved to Waverley CC and was named the Pacific Northwest Open Championship. It has been held at many prestigious courses across Oregon and Washington over its long history.
